Meet Kicking and Screening
Their mission: To engage, connect, and inspire soccer and film enthusiasts through the celebration and presentation of soccer culture.
Simply, they show really great soccer-related films. And they do it in the coolest possible fashion. Festival style.
For the unfamiliar, the organization is Kicking and Screening, founded by Greg Lalas and Rachel Markus in 2009. That year, their inaugural sold out festival was held in New York City. Since that time, Washington (D.C.), Houston, North Adams (Mass.), Amsterdam, London, Kerala (India), Liverpool, and Portland (Ore.). have all played host to Kicking and Screening. Along with film screenings, K&S organizes speaker series, literary readings, and photo exhibits.
This month, K&S hosted, in partnership with FC Tuscon, a festival and screening of Soka Afrika in Tuscon, Arizona. This festival included an art show and panel discussion. Check out some of their photos here.
For those of us on the east coast, we can look forward to the annual K&S festival in New York City, June 18-21. The organization is also planning festivals in Austin (September 7-8) and Portland (October 11-12). For details, keep watch on their website and twitter.
We here at the Union Dues are looking forward to an ongoing partnership with Kicking and Screening. We hope to bring you coverage on the latest and best soccer films, interviews with their creators and up to date info on K&S Festivals.
