Carolina Challenge Cup 2013
History:
Every year since the inaugural Carolina Cup Challenge in 2004, four teams from Major League Soccer and the United Soccer Leagues have gathered at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina to compete for hardware and prepare for the upcoming season. The tournament has always been played in a round-robin format.
Charleston Battery of USL PRO have hosted the tournament every year at their home stadium. The Battery has never won the tournament, but has finished second twice (2008 & 2011).
Though absent from the 2013 field, D.C. United have competed in seven previous Carolina Challenge Cup tournaments. United are the defending champions, having won the competition each of the last three years. Houston Dynamo are the only other team with multiple championships (2006 & 2007).
